Conflict in and outside UN general assembly halls

Trump wondered aloud about pummeling a country "into hell with no chance of survival" while protesters called for his arrest.

Conflict in and outside UN general assembly halls

While walking blocks away from the UN headquarters in east Midtown this morning, I stumbled upon a group of people blocking three lanes of vehicular traffic in a protest against US president Donald Trump.

Protests are common during the diplomatic gathering (Gaza last year, for example) but they're not easy to pull off with tightened security barriers and increased police presence. Basically, activism is allowed but only in certain spaces.

The American leader hadn't addressed the international body yet and the demonstrators were sitting cross-legged at 43rd Street and 2nd Avenue, chanting "Trump is a war criminal, Trump is a terrorist."

The group called for Trump to be impeached and removed from office. Soon, I saw at least 20 detained by NYPD for disorderly conduct.

Those arrested were zipcuffed while supporters held signs that read, "arrest Trump." A sight for who faces accountability for certain actions, perhaps.

This UN General Assembly offering is for subscribers—which I truly appreciate—and you should also become a paid subscriber to join for the week.
